Next Up: Healing and Invigorating Designs, Personalized for Your Needs.
Now these next ones are a little bit intuitive, but bear with me, they are cool and original.
If you have ever stepped foot inside of a hospital waiting lounge, your cozy grandma's living room, or a university exam hall, you will have noticed what a huge difference decor, lighting, and colors make in the field of interior design.
With the right set up, any space can look welcoming, intimidating, grave, relaxing, soothing, and much, much more.
Most interior designers know this already, of course, so what exactly am I getting at here? I'm talking being creative.
I'm talking going further than the traditional idea of "making a home look like a home", and daring to be proactive and bold about what your personal spiritual needs demand from a living space.
I'll give you a few examples here, corresponding with whether you have a generally anxious personality, a depressed personality.
Take a look at these designs:

Soothing Living Spaces for Anxiety
Different people will have different tastes when it comes to what makes them feel relaxed, but for many, a living space is soothing when it is very clean and sparse in it's clutter.
Why? Clutter = housework and chores, which tend to makes us feel stressed and anxious. A minimalist look is what you are looking for, if you can relate to those feelings, as your mind will constantly feel clear and refreshed for each new task you intend to accomplish without constant anxiety getting in the way. It's important to have very prominent personal items and decor that make you feel good or remind you of calming memories.
The above design is a mixture of these things, leaning towards a spiritually fulfilled feeling. It's a clean, nice yet cozy living space.

Now this is a beautiful one!
Very outdoorsy, with natural elements scattered around the room to help create a very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.
This type of thing works with most people. Think natural light and vegetation. The more the better. Even if you don't have many windows in your house, try scattering some brightly colored pot plants around the house.
Extra points: a real wood stove is a lovely way to fill your house with the primal scent of burning wood, and provide you with a meditative flickering of a flame to focus on when you're feeling stressed. Not to mention a great way to keep you warm!
Invigorating Living Spaces for Depression
Now, ideas for making you feel more motivated and less depressed are a little bit trickier because they tend to be very personal.
If you're not sure what would cheer you up, take a look at the first image. Bright, bold colors are safe, as long as they are colors you like and that mix together well. You don't have to be an interior designer to work out what goes well together here, because for once it's all about YOU and what makes you feel good. Just make sure you the room in question is very well lit, with either natural light or lamps - whatever you like best.
But if you can manage it, something that has helped me feel better when I'm down is this: a very personally decorated room that follows a theme of your liking.
If you're not sure where to start, try thinking like a kid: what would your ideal room would look like based on what makes you feel the most alive and invigorated? Whatever makes you feel passionate and interested will work best!
If you're having trouble thinking of ideas, try to think if a place or activity you've enjoyed in the past, such as going away on vacation or to the beach. The above decor would, for example, work very well for someone who like the surfing, sun-and-sand type of fun.
Don't be afraid to be bold. It's worth it to be reminded of things powerful enough to spark that lively feeling within you.
